Frequently asked questions
How old does my child need to be to join?
The Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC) is for ages 10 to 12, and the Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC) is for ages 13 to 17. If you're unsure which fits, just mention your cadet's age in your message and we'll guide you.
When and where do you meet?
The division holds monthly weekend drills at the Naval & Military Park on the Buffalo waterfront. We share the exact dates and the reporting location with families directly rather than publishing a standing schedule of where a group of minors will be, so contact us and we will send you both.
What does it cost to participate?
Cadets pay annual dues, and there are costs for uniforms (sea bags) and meals at drills. You can review current pricing and pay online on our Store page.
How do I officially enroll?
Enrollment is handled through the national program. Start at seacadets.org/join, then reach out to the unit so we can welcome your family and walk you through the first drill.
Do I need military experience to volunteer?
No. Adult volunteers come from all backgrounds. If you'd like to support the division as an instructor, officer, or helper, mention it in your message, we'd love to hear from you.
